Learn to create an App
- Use simple drag-and-drop tools to create an App which runs on your Android phone or tablet
- If you don’t have an Android phone/tablet then come along for a session to learn about how to Apps are constructed
- Learn to create apps which use all the features of your phone : camera, Bluetooth, wifi, motion sensors, voice commands, speech output, send texts/tweets
- Create simple games or complex applications—it’s up to you
- Pick up where you left off—no need to attend all sessions
- Take your work home with you—everything we do in these sessions can be done at home with no extra gadgets required
Requirements
- You must be aged between 8 and 24 years old
- A knowledge of how to use a computer and smart phone is desirable but not essential
- Use of a programming package such as Scratch is sufficient
- Bring along an Android phone or tablet and USB charging cable for the best experience (iPhones and iPads will not work as they have too many restrictions—we will provide a ‘virtual’ phone to develop your apps but you can only do basic apps with this)
Before you come
- If you’re bringing one, make sure you have a working Android device and charging cable
- If you’re bringing a phone, install the “MIT AI2 Companion” app from the Google Play store or by following this link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=edu.mit.appinventor.aicompanion3&hl=en

- Make sure you know your Google Account and password
- The course is held in a secure computer room in the scout HQ – you may drop your child off at 6:30pm and pick them up at 8:30pm
