Free coding sessions for 8-16 year olds
In support of the EU Code Week Wall Heath Scouts will be running free coding sessions at their HQ from 6:30pm-9:30pm on October 8th, 9th, 15th and 16th. Numbers are limited so please register early to secure a place. Please select a ticket for each day your would like to attend. Learn to program a Micro:bit
- Use simple Scratch style interface to screate programs and download them to a handheld computer
- Learn what computers are, how they work and how they can be used
- Use the sensors and buttons on the Micro:bit to interact with your program
- Create simple games or complex applications—it’s up to you
- Take your work home with you—carry on programming at home
There are two groups of two sessions based on levels of competency:
- Beginner sessions will take place between 6:30pm and 8:30pm on October 8th and 9th, attending both of these is the equivalent of achieving the Digital Maker Stage 1
- More advanced sessions will take place between 6:30pm and 8:30pm on October 15th and 16th, attending both of these is the equivalent of achieving the Digital Maker Stage 2
Requirements
- You must be aged between 8 and 16 years old
- A knowledge of how to use a computer is desirable but not essential
- Use of a programming package such as Scratch is sufficient
- The course is held in a secure computer room in the scout HQ – you may drop your child off at 6:30pm and pick them up at 8:30pm
- Your child will need to be signed in and out by an adult – please be on-time and leave a contact number
- We have toilet facilities but there will be no food or drink provided – please bring drinks in sealable containers and no fizzy drinks (there will be a lot of computer equipment and electronic devices on desks)
